Vauxhall Car Insurance

Built on a reputation as one of the longest running car makers in the UK, Vauxhall holds a commanding position in the UK auto market. Vauxhall is the UK arm of General Motors, the world’s largest automotive firm and it has a reputation for providing well-made affordable cars stretching back a century.

The current Vauxhall car range is the most comprehensive ever offered by the firm and is also one of the largest available from any car maker. Vauxhall quite literally caters for every mainstream customer market. And because its cars are affordable and UK built, they are also relative cheap to maintain. This makes Vauxhall a winner with drivers wanting reliable and affordable motoring.

As stated above, Vauxhall boasts an impressively large product portfolio. Its market leading entry model is the well-known Corsa. The handy little hatch-back can be purchased from just £9,000, with prices for the specialist models increasing to £16,000. Vauxhall offers customers a range of engines from 1 litre to a 1.7 litre diesel, which provides plenty of power for the light-weight Corsa. And insurance can be very cheap with entry level Corsa models falling within the first insurance band. However, watch out for premiums rising sharply with the more adventurous Corsa version. The sportiest model sits in band 16, making it a relatively expensive hatch-back option.

Another long-established UK market favourite is the Astra. The Astra has been selling in Britain in large numbers since the 1970s and its popularity does not seem to be waning. The Astra is Vauxhall’s small family car offering. It comes as a 5-door hatch, estate or a sports hatch. Prices start from £11,560 and rise to £21,525 for the sportier models and like its Corsa sibling, insurance bands range considerably depending on which model is taken. Entry Astra models came in insurance band 4, making them very affordable to insure, while the top models fall in band 17.

Staying with Vauxhall’s compact car range but introducing a much newer model we move to the Meriva. This car represents Vauxhall’s entry into the compact MPV market and it is already a hit with customers because it provides convenient family motoring from just under £11,000. The Meriva offers engine sizes ranging from 1.4 to 1.8 litres and its models fall between insurance bands 3 and 12, making it very cheap option insurance wise.

For those customers needing a larger MPV option, Vauxhall has built the Zafira. Like its Meriva cousin, the Zafira offers spacious family motoring without breaking the bank. Prices start at £13,000, with insurance for these entry Zafira models coming in at a very cheap band 5 and 6. At the top end customers can select a 2L turbo model for £22,500. This car falls within insurance band 15.

Arguably the flagship model of Vauxhall’s entire range is its main saloon car, the Vectra. This family or corporate saloon offers smooth, comfortable motoring with good economy and safety. Once again, the Vectra offers affordability as well, with the base 1.8L model on forecourts for just under £15,000. Vauxhall also offers the sporty VXR Vectra (as seen winning the 2007 BTCC Championship) with a 2.8L engine and a price tag of £24.695. The Vectra also comes in estate form, with the most expensive model being a 3L CDTi. The Vectra fits into the insurance band range between 9 and 18.

Vauxhall’s newest offering is its rugged and versatile Antara. There are currently four Antara models to choose from. Three have a 2L engine, with one further model boasting a more powerful 2.4L unit under the hood. The Antara has a price bracket of £19,995 to £26,320 and it falls within insurance bands 11 and 13.

Vauxhall’s specialist range of cars includes the well-established Tigra, the executive hatch Signum and the muscular VXR8. Vauxhall offers five versions of its compact Tigra sports car. Prices range from £14,000 to £16,000 and its insurance bands range from 8 to 12. The new Signum offers performance motoring in an expertly engineered hatch-back frame. The Signum costs between £18,225 and £27,250 and it falls within group 9 and 15 of the insurance band range.

Finally, the exciting new VXR8 offers sleek saloon motoring at its best. Originating out of Australia, the muscular VXR8 has a 6L engine and a £35,000 price tag. Not surprisingly it slots into the top insurance band of 20. Fun motoring but with a cost!
